Small and medium-sized industry constitutes a major component of an economy because it is flexible in adapting to social and economic conditions, and it is a dynamic sector in which new technologies are first tried out. Moreover, it supplies parts and components to large establishments. These characteristics make it essential to collect data on small and medium-sized establishments.
